How do I size toe rings?
Please visit our Ring Sizer page for more information. Our rings are completely round and most come in sizes 1 through 12 - including half sizes. This means you can decorate your fingers, toes, thumbs, knuckles and pinkies. If you size incorrectly, simply return the ring for the correct size - no problem! How do I fit an anklet or ankle bracelet?
Measure your ankle just above the ankle bone. Add one-half to one inch. If you do not have a tape measure, use a piece of dental floss or piece of string. If you have difficulty holding the floss or string around your ankle, tape one end down. Then mark the floss or string with a small pen mark where the two pieces cross around your ankle. Lay this on a ruler and add one-half to one inch (depending on how you like to wear the anklet). (Example: your floss measures 8-inches - order an 8.5" or 9" anklet). Allow for the anklet to drape nicely on your foot - very pretty!
How do I return an item or exchange it for for a new size or different item?
You do not need to call us. Simply copy your receipt and note the new size or write on the receipt copy what you want us to do. Then mail the item to our mailing address: Shelby's, 577 So. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Please pack the item in manner that will allow it to pass through postal machines - no flat envelopes please. Take extra care with rings that have a design like the V-Shape, Love Knot or Swirl - they flatten if not packaged with care (i.e. extra bubble wrap or a small box). You can often re-use the envelopes we used. You may insure the package for your own protection if you wish, but Shelby's does not require it.

What are Shoewels?
Shoewels are a beaded foot jewelry piece designed by Shelby's owner, Shirley Elliott. They have pretty glass beads strung on strong, coated cable. These pretty Shoewels were designed as a hostess sandal, but you are barefoot! They were soon picked up for beach and pool wear. Adjustable for a U.S. women's shoe size 6 to 10. They have an adjustable ankle chain on the back of each Shoewel. They are priced per pair. They can be worn with certain styles of sandals or pumps, but are most often worn barefoot.
What is the meaning of a toe ring / anklet or the meaning if worn on the left or right foot?
Fashion only. In the United States we have no meaning attached to anklets or toe rings - unlike India where the silver toe ring can be seen adorning a married woman's toe (if not several toes). So have fun - left, right, one foot or both - it is all pretty preference and can be addicting!

Do men wear toe rings or anklets?
Yes, men wear both! We carry toe rings in great styles for men - including our 10 Gauge Bands, the Bands and Braid, and the Bands and Rope - as well as others. Having a fitted toe ring means you can wear them 24/7 - even while running or playing sports.
My sterling silver rings have turned black - what do I do?
Yes, unfortunately this can happen. Any sterling silver will darken if exposed to the wrong chemicals (strong pool chlorine) or to certain minerals (some mineral oils or mineral baths), but this is correctable. Jacuzzis that are heavily chlorinated may have the chlorine sitting towards the bottom of the pool - where your toe rings are! - so even though your finger rings may stay bright, the toe rings were sitting in the chemicals. A good silver polish will clean this up. Also - toe rings are on your feet, so it may just be dirt. Simply wash the rings up and polish with a jewelry cloth (like the one you got from Shelby's). When you are not wearing your sterling silver, store it in a plastic bag not open in the jewelry box. In most cases your rings will stay bright just by wearing them and giving them an occasional hit with the polish cloth. Anklets are harder to clean if exposed to strong pool chlorine, so be aware of the PH in the pool. If it darkens the jewelry, it is not good for the body. Pools with correct PH do not cause this problem and it happens more often in jacuzzi's than with swimming pools. "The gym" hot tubs seem to be the worst. With an anklet, if a run through the polish cloth does not work, try a silver cleaning dip (found in most stores).
What is gold-fill?
Gold-fill is a thick layer of gold (.05 weight) on top of a base metal. This is a MUCH thicker layer of gold than electro-plate. Gold-fill will last a few months to a few years on toe rings (depending on the conditions in which the toe rings are worn or hit the ground). Anklets will last a very long time because the layers of gold do not hit the ground - again, this is a much thicker layer than electro-plate. This is a very nice, affordable alternative to solid gold. However, we also sell 14K gold rings, too :)
